Kevin Athow is Head of Legal Affairs and Regional Compliance Officer at BSH Home Appliances Ltd, the UK subsidiary of BSH Hausgeräte GmbH, part of the Bosch group. He started with the company in April 2010 and became Company Secretary in June 2013.
Kevin graduated from Nottingham Trent University in 1998 with a LL.B.(Hons), having combined full-time employment with Siemens Communications, then based in Luton, as a Commercial Officer and latterly a Business Analyst and auditor/assessor of Quality Management Systems, with his studies.
After completing his degree, Kevin left Siemens in order to further his education full-time, and was Called to the Bar in July 1999. Kevin subsequently went back to Siemens Communications to provide commercial and legal advice to a specialist IT/consultancy/telecoms solutions team. Kevin now works within BSH helping the business to achieve outstanding results whilst highlighting and helping to minimise risk to the company, and advocates a pragmatic and logical approach to his work. Originally his expertise was in the IT field, he is particularly interested in anti-competition and anti-corruption aspects of corporate governance and risk. More recently, Kevin is heavily involved in regulatory matters, including eco-design/energy labelling and product liability/product recall/consumer rights – increasingly with a pan-EU focus.
Originally the sole UK in-house lawyer for BSH UK, Kevin has since created an in-house legal team of diverse lawyers working as trusted advisors responsible for litigation and risk management and legal/compliance advisory & support services. He sourced and implemented Artificial Intelligence (AI) contract discovery and analytics software; electronic contract management, negotiation and e-signature solutions; and matter management SaaS products for use by legal dept. and internal/external business stakeholders. He now assists other BSH group companies in the sourcing and implementation of SaaS solutions, including needs analysis.
